Documented final testing

In many production processes it will be sufficient to monitor the production process or the process parameters in order to judge the quality of the final product. But where the highest quality is required, or where reliability is of great importance, it is often necessary to carry out a functional test of the final product after it has been through all stages of production. This might be required, for example, if the properties of the final product can lie outside the permitted tolerances even though intact components have been used in the production.

The results of the final test not only include the overall assessment (OK, or reject) but also information about the cause of any fault. All the quality-relevant data can be stored. This documentation makes it possible to demonstrate the tested product quality even after a number of years, which can be important for matters relating to product liability. Secondly, the systematic registration of results also makes it possible to evaluate the data statistically. This can show up the causes of faults. Eliminating weak points can further improve the overall production process.

The quasi-autonomous test systems, which may include not only measuring and testing technology but also mechanical and pneumatic components, can be retrofitted to existing production lines. They provide real-time evaluation of each product as it is completed on the basis of the functions specified by the customer and the given tolerances.

Examples are:

  • Testing of shifting forces and shifting points for gear-boxes
  • Monitoring assembled units for missing components
